In our plating process, products are immersed in a solution containing metal ions while an electric current is applied. This causes the metal ions to accept electrons and deposit onto the surface of the product as metal.

In other words, rather than applying a coat of paint, we are growing the metal itself at the micron level. This ensures that the final surface is genuine metal.

The cool touch when you make contact.
The light reflection unique to metal.
The hardness characteristic of metallic materials.

These qualities cannot be replicated through painting.

The thickness of our plating is generally several tens of microns—a metal layer thinner than a single strand of hair (approximately 80–100 microns).

What is fascinating about this thinness is that the precision of the underlying base is revealed directly on the surface.

If there is a tiny scratch on the base, that scratch will be reflected in the finish. Conversely, if the base is mirror-polished, the plating will result in a mirror-like finish.

Plating is not a technology for "hiding the surface"; it is a technology for "reflecting the substrate."

In reality, plating does not distribute uniformly just by applying an electric current.

Because current concentrates at the corners (edges), the metal deposits more thickly there. Conversely, it is difficult for current to reach deep grooves or the bottom of holes, resulting in a thinner layer. Controlling this "throwing power" is where the expertise of a plating technician truly shines.

The positioning of the jigs used to secure the product.
The method of applying the current.
The circulation of the solution.
The temperature.
The duration.

Even the slightest difference in these conditions causes significant changes in the final finish.

MYSTIC WORKS

MYSTIC WORKS clocks are available in a variety of colors, such as gold, silver, and copper.

In fact, these are not the result of artificial coloring. They are simply determined by the final metal deposited during the plating process.

For example:
・Gold produces a gold finish.
・Chromium produces a silver finish.

In other words, the colors you see are not "paint colors," but the true color of the metal itself. This is precisely why the appearance changes depending on how the light hits it, creating a depth that only genuine metal can provide.

Our plating is processed using the same technology utilized for automotive components. It follows the same principles as the emblems and front grilles that endure years of outdoor exposure.

While there is a common misconception that "plating peels off," when created through the proper process, it does not easily flake away with daily use. A genuine metal crystal structure is firmly anchored to the surface.

Plating is not merely a technique for creating luster. It is a form of manufacturing that can only be completed by layering expertise in electricity, chemistry, materials, and machining.

For over a century, what we have been dedicated to is not just a "technique for decorating surfaces," but the art of cultivating metal exactly as intended. That is why the light reflected from a single piece of metal holds a depth that goes far beyond what meets the eye.
